Beyond Sustainability

It’s too early to know all the ways our world will be impacted by the current crisis, but one thing that’s clear is that we’re unlikely to see a return to “business as usual”. We believe that sustainability will be at the heart of the post-pandemic narrative, and that businesses will need to tell a broader, more inclusive sustainability story.

Sustainability story

One of our clients, Vornado, is an excellent example of dedication to this important ideal. Vornado is preparing for the future with their ESG commitment to enriching the health and lives of their tenants and employees. We were inspired working on the design of the report with Dan Egan and Alyssa Zucker.

In the very near future, your stakeholders will want to know how you are sustaining the physical and mental wellbeing of your employees, how you are meeting the evolving needs of your customers/consumers, and what you’re doing to ensure the rebuilding of your business and the communities you serve.

Redefine Messaging

We believe that this crisis, terrible as it is, also represents an opportunity for existing leaders to strengthen their position and for new leaders to emerge. The companies that will thrive in the coming months and years are those that successfully reassure their stakeholders, redefine their messaging around sustainability and beyond, and recommit to their core values.

I feel that this is a time:
To refocus, rethink and reconsider what matters to your business, your community and your environment
To evaluate your value and values
To find a new way to talk about business
Start now to plan what’s next

See what Senior Vice President of Vornado, Daniel Egan said about their 2019 ESG Report on LinkedIn:

"Hope all remain healthy and safe. From the eye of the COVID-19 storm, it's my pleasure to present Vornado Realty Trust's 2019 ESG Report. Among our program updates comes the important announcement that we intend to make our buildings carbon neutral by 2030. Very proud to work for a company that continues to prioritize climate change during times of crises. Big shout out to Michael Lipitz, LEED GA, Alyssa Zucker, Karen Oh, Emily Elizabeth Gove, Grant Sheely. The hard work continues! The 8-K is filed and the assurance is complete. Special thanks to our team of Kristen Sullivan, Shayna Platt, CPA, Meadow Hackett from Deloitte for working tirelessly to deliver this on time. Thank you to Andy Anderson, LEED AP, CMVP and team from EnergyWatch for a data job well done. And of course to Janet Odgis, Rhian Swierat and team at Odgis + Co for making this report beautiful! Like last year, we aligned this report in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Core, the 2018 codified metrics for real estate codified by SASB – Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, and have expanded our disclosure of climate change risk according to the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)."
