Ms. Odgis is now conveying beautiful insights on the power of design in a new blog in
The Huffington Post. Janet is drawing upon her three decades of experience in graphic design to artfully post blogs offering perspectives on eye-catching topics such as “
Branding: Familiarity Breeds Contentment,” “
The Cure for the Common Presentation,” and “
The Story That Sells Itself.”
Janet became one of The Huffington Post’s signature lineup of contributors at the suggestion of Arianna Huffington. The HuffPost founder and editor advised that Ms. Odgis, who has worked with some of the world’s most prestigious corporations reinventing ways to define and express their brands, write a blog based upon her unique experience and point of view.
Ms. Odgis, in one of her first HuffPost blogs, “
Refreshing Your Brand: How to Fall in Love Again With Your Business,” explains that deciding to refresh your brand acknowledges the evolution of the business and “pays homage to the nature and necessity of change itself.” Janet believes that, while clients and consumers need an up-to-date look, history and context are also important. This blend demonstrates experience and gives the impression of stability through consistency.
Janet works with established companies that are looking for “freshness.” Her visual branding company creates strategies based on a client’s goal and vision. Odgis talks to clients to hear their ideas and learn about their greatest challenges. “Design isn’t just about what we create,” her firm website declares, “it’s how we create.”
“Odgis + Company looks at where you are and where you want to go and helps you get there by examining your relevance and significance,” she explains. Customization based on values and needs is a priority for her because differentiating from the competition requires a unique strategy.
“It’s impossible to maintain a fresh, relevant image in a changing world by staying exactly the same,” she says. “All businesses struggle to figure out how their industries are changing and keep it relevant. Brands can’t start over without losing their audiences, so balancing the “essence” and continually explaining why it matters is crucial.”
Janet is a true believer in the power of design “because when it’s done right, it’s priceless.” Every brand has a soul and a story and Odgis helps brands convey them in ways that are relevant to the constantly changing world.
Janet founded her company 30 years ago, after receiving an M.F.A. from Yale. She started as a Special Projects Designer at Random House, Knopf and Vintage. Her resume also includes teaching graphic design at the New School’s Parsons School of Design and at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Janet holds numerous accolades including the National Book Award and various professional memberships.
