The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) is a multi-venue arts center at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in
Troy,
New York, which opened on October 3, 2008. The design architect for the EMPAC is
Grimshaw Architects, London and New York, designers of
The Eden Project, the
London School of Economics, and
International Terminal Waterloo. The architect of record is the New York City architectural firm
Davis Brody Bond. Odgis + Company and The Kreisberg Group were privileged to have been closely involved with EMPAC branding during its early stages. Our companies helped formulate EMPAC’s message points, designed its logo and graphic identity, and announced this exciting project to the news media. The logo is based on the shape of the building which is spoon shaped dug into the side of a hill. We designed the logo form to represent the experimental nature of the performance center it's infinite possibilities. All of the materials echo that form and reinforce that notion of infinity.
